Our Cats

289 cats and kittens were rehomed by this Branch during 2003. Another 270 in 2004. Figures for 2005 and 2006 show we have rehomed about 300 cats and kittens each year. In 2007 we  struggled to match these figures as our area has taken in so many new cats in recent years. We need your help more than ever as many of our grown up residents are being overlooked. However we did home about 250 in 2008

Some of the cats in our care are not suitable for rehoming, but are instead available for sponsorship .

These are just some of the cats in need of good homes. All have been, or will be, neutered to avoid any more unwanted kittens.Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see some of them.

Anyone adopting a young kitten from us will sign a contract agreeing to it neutering just before six months of age.

Contact our Homing Co-ordinator on 0845 1947 292 Ext 3 or complete our   contact form if you could offer a kind and loving home to one or more of these cats.

You will need to live near the Wharfe Valley area - if you not, ring the Headquarters helpline on 08702 099 099 and they will put you in touch with your local Cats Protection branch. We have strict guidelines about proximity to busy roads and other hazards.

Inevitably, lack of resources means that we cannot always do as much as we would wish to. The only way to stop this happening is through better education of pet owners, encouraging them to have all cats neutered to prevent this unnecessary misery.

In the meantime, if you want a cat or a kitten as a pet, please do not buy one from a pet shop. Instead, contact us and we will see if any of the cats available for re-homing would suit you.

Six month old kittens

This year has seen so many kittens.Consequently many stay waiting for a home.longer than they would wish,in our foster homes.

Four ferals

We often have estate or farm cats who cannot stay on their original home.We currently have four youngsters who were born on the campus of Leeds University. They will probably never make the transition to regular house cats but may want to be friendly yet not want handling. They need stables or a small holding. We will provide initial support and equipment to settle them in before release.

TABBY MALE URGENTLY NEEDS NEW HOME
Tabby male cat about 6 years old needs a home urgently. His elderly owner is in hospital and not expected to return to his Otley home
Dave
Young black male, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He came in with his Mum and litter mates after being born on a doorstep. He is a little shy with strangers but loves to sit next to his fosterer. Would be better as an only cat in a quietish home. Although he is fluffy he doesn't need constant grooming.
Tabby

Tabby is currently living with his owner, but she is having to give him up due to failing health.  As we are full with a long waiting list need to home them directly from their owner which would be much better for the cats.

He suffered a bite to the tail in July this year by a feral cat, he has since been treated by a vet and it has completely healed. Whilst he was there he had a full health check as well as some teeth taken out. He isn't bothered by children, he will quite happily let them stroke him then when he has lost interest he'll just wonder off. Neither is he bothered by dogs, he just tends to ignore them. As mentioned before, he likes to be nursed and held like a child. He is happy with a nice warm cushion to sleep on.
Billy

Billy needs a new home as his current owner has health problems and can no longer look after him.  He is still living with his owner at present. As we are full with a long waiting list need to home them directly from their owner which would be much better for the cats.

Has had no health problems at all. He prefers to just sit comfy on a person’s knee and doesn't like to be made a fuss of. He is ok with children but doesn't like dogs or thunder, he will go hide until the coast it clear. He is the most independent of the cats.
Big Mac
BIG MAC was heard meowing in the undergrowth next to a busy roundabout and a drive in MacDonalds hence his name. When he was at last tempted out  with yes you guessed it, a Big Mac, he was found to have half a leg missing. He was a bit frightened at first but can you blame him. The vets confirmed that he must have lost his leg due to an injury. Probably was hit by a car and he had to drag around a damaged leg until it fell off, he was lucky to survive. We monitored him for a couple of weeks but it was obvious that his stump was always going to break down as it hadn't been professionally amputated. The decision was made to remove the rest of his leg. He had been used to walking with three legs so will soon be able to get about and do virtually anything a regular cat can do. Now his useless leg has been removed it will help him walk much better as the weight of his half leg was pulling him to one side. If he is anything like the last three legged cat we had, then Mac will be climbing trees and running just as fast as any other cat before so long. Mac is now a delightful happy cat, loves a tummy tickle. He was already neutered on arrival so must have been someone's much loved cat once. He could have run so far away from home when he had his accident that even after extensive advertising his owner couldn't be found. He is now microchipped, if only it had been done earlier. Can you give this special boy the loving home he deserves.

Outdoor Cats
These cats through no fault of their own are neither feral or domestic. They were born outdoors but we got to them too late to make them enjoy human companionship. Ideally they need to go in pairs, or even more to live as outdoor cats in a shed  or in a big garden or at stables or smallholdings. They may in time make friends with you. They could earn their keep by convincing the rabbits and mice to keep away . Some of the cats do like to come close especially at feeding time but do not want to be picked up. All they need is somewhere dry and clean to sleep and two meals a day. An experienced cat owner should be able to bring them round in a home as long as they are prepared to give the cats plenty of time to come round and prepared to not see them for days until they feel safe enough to show themselves. They are all well and neutered . Can you make up for their bad start in life. If only their Mum's had been neutered in time we wouldn't have all these timid cats to help.
