  Feral cats
Most cat lovers find it hard to define a feral cat in terms readily understood by all. They are the same species as the pet cat in the armchair-felix domesticus. They are not related directly to the Scottish wild cat.

Feral cats can be domesticated if introduced to handling by humans early in their life-preferably before six weeks of age. However many cat charity helpers and other caring folk have made pets of adult feral cats.It takes time, often years, and does not always end in much lap activity.

In essence feral means roaming free.We also describe city pigeons as feral whilst those owned by pigeon fanciers are not.

Ownership or lack of it is a misnomer. Some feral colonies of cats, particularly on welcoming farms and industrial sites, are fed and individuals often given names. This can imply responsible ownership particularly if the colony is neutered.

Our branch supports about fifty feral cats in various locations such as allotments, caravan parks, farms and factories. This support varies from food subsidy to vet care or Neutering.
We believe many feral cats get a raw deal and welcome the chance to help if we are able and welcome on the site.
